General recommendations Service intervals Free inspection service Power transmission system
1. General recommendations
- Always stop the engine before servicing your tractor.
- Apply the parking brake to prevent the tractor from moving. On uneven ground, the wheels should be blocked.
- Clean the tractor in all maintenance work conditions. Thoroughly clean all plugs, as well as the parts around it before refilling the tractor with fuel or oil.
- Inspect the oil and filters when changing them. Large amounts of dirt (for instance, very plugged filters) may be a sign that the tractor is operating under adverse conditions, requiring more attention to these items in order to avoid expensive and long repairs.
- When servicing your tractor, park it on level ground.
- Levels should be checked, preferably before running the tractor engine, while the oil is still cold and at the bottom.
- After concluding the maintenance work, refit all plugs. Note: When washing the tractor, do not let the water get to the electrical equipment.
- Experience has shown that periodic maintenance, when correctly performed, is the is the most effective method to obtain maximum performance and durability.
- Maintenance is called periodic because the services should be performed within specific intervals. This way, to organize the work better, the preventive lubrication and service chart attached to this manual should be followed.
- We must emphasize, however, that the service intervals were determined based on normal working conditions. Under very adverse work conditions and abrupt climate changes, we recommend checking and performing the maintenance chart items in shorter intervals.
- When changing the engine oil, AVOID CONTACT with the drained oil, as it is hot and may burn you. The oil and filters used should be handled very carefully and placed in proper places.
- Clean the lubrication points before using the grease gun.
- Apply grease through the nipples, until it comes out clean through the other side (unless otherwise specified).
- Clean the excess around the nipples.
- Lubricate the pivoting points with no load and in different positions. For instance, grease the steering pivots in the front axle with both wheels locked and the axle raised.
- Running-in period (only for a new tractor or rebuilt components).

2. Service intervals
Service your Valtra: - Daily or every 10 service hours. - Weekly or every 50 service hours. - Every 250 service hours. - Every 500 service hours. - Every 1000 service hours.
The service intervals are presented in a progressive order, therefore, the maintenance to be performed when the tractor reaches 1000 hours includes the services to be performed every 10, 50, 250, and 500 hours, and so forth. For instance, the maintenance every 500 hours includes the maintenance services every 10, 50, and 250 hours.
The service intervals should be controlled through the hour meter. Maintain this instrument in good work conditions. It’s essential to use the correct lubricant in every system. Along with the maintenance chart you have the specifications, commercial names, and amounts of each lubricant to be used in different systems in the tractor. Important: The service costs regarding lubricant, filter, water radiator additive, and grease changes are the owner’s responsibility, and these changes should be performed within the recommended intervals in the maintenance and lubrication chart.

3. Free inspection service
Your Dealer offers a free inspection service after 100 hours of operation for all new Valtra tractors (except for costs with oil and filters).
The procedures are the following:
Engine - Change engine oil and filter after 100 hours. The next changes should be made every 250 hours of operation; - Fuel system pre-filter cleaning; - Change of fuel filter elements. Transmission (gearbox, multiplier, final drive, brakes and PTO) - Change engine oil and filter with 100 and 500 hours of operation. After that, at every 500 hours.
4WD Front Axle - Change the differential oil and planetary reducer oil with 100, 500, and 1000 hours of operation. After that, at every 1000 hours. Hydraulic System - Change the pressure filter and oil with 100, 500, and 1000 hours of operation. After that, at every 1000 hours; - Clean and wash the suction filter of the hydraulic system. General - Test the tractor, controls and instruments; - After testing, check whether there are leaks in the cooling, hydraulic, and fuel systems. During operation - Whenever possible, run the tractor in services that demand ½ to ¾ of engine maximum power, changing the load application and avoiding using maximum power. Avoid running the engine for long periods in low idle or continuous rpm, with or without load, as it may affect the seating of piston rings and sleeves.
- Lubricating oil and filter element.
- The filter and lubricating oil with which the engine was filled in the factory should be changed after the first 100 service hours. The oil should be drained with the engine warm and per instructions described in the manual, complying with the environmental protection standards.
Important: - The lubricating oil and filter should be changed to eliminate the metal particles that result from the mechanisms' running-in period, since in this period the sealing in the piston rings and cylinder sleeves is not perfect, allowing the lubricant to be contaminated more easily. - Do not try, under any circumstance, to wash the engine with kerosene or other similar product, as this practice is highly prejudicial to the engine, because it reduces its durability considerably. - Always fill the engine with the lubricating oil specified in the recommended lubricant table.

4. Power transmission system
During operation: Aiming to achieve an even adjustment and seating of all transmission gears, it’s necessary to use all gears. Avoid using only one gear in continuous service.
Change of lubricating oil and filter element: For the same reasons the engine oil filter and lubricating oil need to be changed, the transmission oil should also be changed within the following intervals: - First 100 and 500 service hours; - Change the lubricating oil and filter element; - After that, at every 500 hours. 4WD front axle: The lubricating oil with which the axle was supplied in the factory should be used in the changes made in the first 100, 500, and 1000 service hours. After that, at every 1000 service hours or once a year.
Important: The lubricating oil, brake fluid, water radiator additive, and grease changes are the owner’s responsibility, and these changes should be performed within the recommended intervals provided in the maintenance and lubrication chart.
Service inspection after 100 hours During the first 200/300 hours of operation, the parts from the various tractor mechanisms are still seating in their mating surfaces. This process is known as the running-in period. The running-in period is very important, as the performance and durability to be achieved by the tractor will depend for the most part on special cares, both in terms of operation and maintenance, given in this period. These cares are the following:
- Engine: before operating, warm up the engine by running it without load at load idle (1000 RPM) and wait for the thermometer needle to reach the white zone. Never apply load with the engine cold. This care should be taken both in the running-in period and throughout the entire engine life.
